The Xbox cloud gaming app is finally expanding beyond Samsung Smart TVs, launching on the latest Fire TV 4K sticks in July. Samsung has been the exclusive TV partner for Microsoft since the Xbox app's debut on Samsung Smart TVs in 2022. The Xbox app allows Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers to stream games such as Starfield, Fallout 4, Forza Horizon 5 and Fortnite over the internet to their devices – no Xbox console required.Xbox on Fire TV
The Xbox app will arrive on the Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2023) and Fire TV Stick 4K (2023) in July. It is unclear why only the latest Fire TV sticks are compatible. More Fire TV devices may be added over time, but at this time Amazon has only confirmed these two.The Xbox app for Fire TV. Photo: Amazon
- "Today, we’re announcing a collaboration with Amazon where Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members in over 25 countries can play games directly from the Xbox app on select Fire TV devices via cloud gaming, giving people even more choice in how they play their favorite games," said Ashley McKissick, Corporate Vice President, Xbox Experiences and Platforms Engineering. To get started, you need to connect a compatible Bluetooth game controller, such as Xbox or PlayStation DualShock/DualSense, to your Fire TV 4K stick. The $17/month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate plan is required for Xbox cloud gaming. Xbox cloud gaming is available in HD resolution. There is currently no option for 4K, HDR or Dolby Atmos. There is still no word regarding an Xbox app for other Smart TV platforms.
